Trifluoroacetic acid catalyzed tetrahydro­pyranyla­tion of alcohols and phenols and direct conversion of THP ethers into acetates

 

An expedite and convenient procedure for tetrahydro­pyranylation of alcohols and phenols in dichloromethane and their depyranylation in methanol in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid at ambient temperature is developed. The reaction conditions are tolerable for a variety of functionalities. The direct conversion of tetrahydro­pyranyl ethers into their corresponding acetates under trifluoroacetic acid catalysis is also achieved.

A diamine, 4-(4-phthalimidophenyl)-1,2,4-triazolidyne-3,5-diamine or urazolediamine has been synthesized in 8 steps from 4-nitrobenzoic acid. It can be used as a monomer for the preparation of polyesters, polyamides and polyimides.

A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of 6-aryl-9-(4-hydroxy-3-ethoxyphenyl)-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-a][1,8] naphthyridines 4 by the oxidation of the corresponding ethylvanillin 3-aryl-1,8-naphthyridin-2-ylhydrazones 3 using silicagel supported ferric chloride (SiO2-FeCl3) in solvent-free conditions under microwave irradiation has been described.
