Synthesis, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of some indole analogues containing naphthyridine and pyrimidonaphthyridine systems

Key intermediates 4-amino-5-(2-methoxynaphthalen-6-yl)-7-aryl-2-(5-substituted-2-phenyl-1H-indol-3-yl)-1,8-naphthyridin-5-carbonitriles 4a-i when subjected to annulations using reagents such as formic acid, carbon disulfide and formamide afforded title compounds 5a-i, 6a-i and 7a-i, respectively. A novel approach for the synthesis of 3,5,7-trisubstituted-4H-[1,2]diazepine 5a-p from α,β-unsaturated 1,5-diketone 4 by the condensation of substituted acetophenones 1 with 1,3-dicarbonyl compound 3 in the presence of sodium tertiary butoxide has been described.

Microwave enhanced Claisen-Schmidt condensation: A green route to chalcones

 

Chalcones have been synthesized under microwave irradiation by Claisen-Schmidt condensation between 4-piperidino­acetophenone and appropriately substituted benzeldehydes using NaOH-Al2O3 under solvent free conditions. All the compounds have been screened for antimicrobial activity by the cup-plate method.

Facile thermal rearrangement of Lorazepam and Oxazepam

 

Lorazepam 1, a very well known anti-convulsant undergoes facile thermal rearrangement at about 110°C to 6-chloro-4-(o-chloro­phenyl)-2-quinazolinecarboxaldehyde 10 in almost quantitative yield. Oxazepam 2 which is structurally similar, requires higher temperature for the similar rearrangement to give 6-chloro-4-phenyl-2-quinazolinecarboxaldehyde 11.

Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial screening of some novel chalcones and their derivatives

 

Synthesis of some novel 2-(4-(allyloxy)-3-methoxyphenyl)-4H-chromen-4-ones 5a-f and 2-(4-(allyloxy)-3-methoxyphenyl)-3-chloro-4H-chromen-4-ones 6a-f by oxidative cyclisation of (E)-3-(4-allyloxy)-3-methoxyphenyl)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-ones using DMSO/I2 and DMSO/CuCl2 at reflux condition has been carried out. The synthesized compounds have been evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities.
