Conventional and microwave induced synthesis of various azetidinone and thiazolidinone derivatives from 3- (1E)-1-aza-2-(2-chloro-7-methoxy-3-quinolyl)-vinyl]-4-(aryldiazenyl) phenol 1 and their antimicrobial screening

 

2-Azetidinones 2 and 4-thiazolidinones 3 have been synthesized by the reaction of Schiff bases 1 with chloroacetyl chloride and mercapto acetic acid, respectively. Both the reactions have been carried out by conventional and  microwave methods.

Role of copper in catalyzing aryl and heteroaryl -nitrogen (or -oxygen) bond formation under ligand-free and solvent-free conditions

This report demonstrates that the formation of aryl- or heteroaryl-nitrogen (or -oxygen) bonds under ligand and solvent-free conditions are highly selective to the presence of copper.

Synthesis of novel bis heterocycles: Bis pyrroles, pyrrolyl pyrazolines and pyrrolyl isoxazolines

 

The Michael acceptors, 1-arylsulfonyl-2-styrylsulfonylethenes have been used as synthons to develop bis pyrroles, pyrrolyl pyrazolines and pyrrolyl isoxazolines by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of tosylmethyl isocyanide, nitrile imines and nitrile oxides.

Synthesis of a new class of 2-oxazolines and
2-thiazolines

A new class of 2-oxazolines and 2-thiazolines are prepared by base promoted cyclization of 3-aryl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-(arylsulfonyl)butanamide/3-aryl-S-(2-aminoethyl)-4-(arylsulfonyl)butanethioates with NaH in THF. The former compounds are also obtained by one pot methodology using samarium(III) chloride.

Synthesis of [N,N′-bis(5-benzoyl-4-phenylthiazol-2-yl)-N,N′-bisbenzyl]ethane-1,2-diamines

Conversion of sabinene to phellandral via
p-menthane-1,2,7-triol

 

The essential oil of the seeds of Zanthoxylum rhetsa DC, which contains 72.7% sabinene, after treatment with peracetic acid has been analysed by GC and GC-MS. Twenty three compounds have been identified with p-menthane-1, 2, 7-triol (36.65%), as the major constituent. The triol on heating with 50% H3PO4 forms phellandral
 (p-menthane-1-en-7-al).

Superoxide induced oxidative aromatization of Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines

 

Tetraethylammonium superoxide, obtained in situ by the phase transfer reaction of potassium superoxide and tetraethylammonium bromide, accomplishes an easy and efficient oxidative aromatization of Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines to their corresponding pyridines under mild reaction conditions, at room temperature.

Silica supported zinc chloride catalyzed acetylation of amines, alcohols and phenols

 

Silica supported zinc chloride (SiO2-ZnCl2) has been prepared and found to efficiently catalyze the acetylation of amines, alcohols and phenols by stirring in acetonitrile at 80ēC under heterogeneous conditions. The catalyst can be separated from the reaction medium simply by filtration and re-used up to four times.

Synthesis of thiazines using an unusual means-sonication

 

A trouble free and swift method have been established for the synthesis of thiazines from carbostyril CAB1 and dimidone DIM2 using sulphur powder and iodine as a catalyst in presence of  THF solvent.
