Synthesis of biologically active novel bis Schiff bases, bis hydrazone and bis guanidine derivatives


A number of bis Schiff bases, bis hydrazone derivatives and bis guanidine derivatives have been synthesized. On screening for anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities compounds 3b and 11e have showed anti-inflammatory activity comparable to phenylbutazone. Compound 11e has exhibited analgesic activity comparable to phenylbutazone and compound 3b showed analgesic activity better than phenylbutazone.

Tetraethylammonium superoxide induced Michael addition of active methylene compounds to chalcones


Michael addition of active methylene compounds to chalcones using in-situ generated tetraethylammonium superoxide results in the formation of Michael adducts in 69-84% yield under mild reaction conditions, at room temperature.

A new aliphatic acid from Achyranthes aspera Linn. Roots


A total of six compounds isolated from the ethanol extract of the roots of Achyranthes aspera Linn. (Amaranthaceae) are characterised as strigmasta-5, 22-dien-3-β-ol, trans-13-docasenoic acid, n-hexacosanyl n-decaniate, n-hexacos-17- enoic acid and n-hexacos-11-enoic acid  on basis of spectral data and chemical means, including a new aliphatic acid,
n-hexacos-14-enoic acid which is being reported for the first time from natural and synthetic source.

Reaction of 3-aminocyclohex-2-en-1-ones with arylidenemalononitriles: Synthesis, characteriza­tion and antimicrobial activity of some new quinoline bearing pyrazole nucleus


A new series of quinoline bearing pyrazole nucleus D1-36 have been prepared in one pot by condensing various arylidenemalononitriles A1-3 and 3-aminocyclohex-2-en-1-ones B1-12 in alcohol and in the presence of catalytic amount of piperidine. All the compounds have been characterized by their percentage yield, melting point, elemental analysis, 1H and 13NMR spectra and IR spectra. These compounds have also been screened for their antimicrobial activities.

VOSO4-catalyzed Biginelli condensation: An efficient synthesis of dihydro-1H-pyrimidine-2-thione/one and octahydro-2,5-quinazolinedione


The three component condensation of an aldehyde 1, urea/thiourea 2 and β-ketoester 3 / dimidone 7 in the presence of a catalytic amount of VOSO4 is disclosed for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrimidine-2-thione/one (DHPMs) 4 and octahydro-2,5-quinazolinedione 8 under solvent-free micro­wave irradiation conditions. High yields are achieved even on 1 g scale, while reaction times are considerably shortened compared to conventional heating conditions.
