Video denoising without motion estimation using
K-means clustering |
This study presents a novel dictionary pruning algorithm that found
dictionaries of optimized size for a given dataset, without compromising its
approximation accuracy and performance. It is achieved by applying KSVD
(K-means singular value decomposition) algorithm
to patches of
dictionary. Proposed method optimized dictionary selection, and with KSVD
yielded better video denoising than KSVD with fixed dictionary.

Quaternion
wavelets based rotation, scale and translation invariant texture
classification and retrieval
|
This
study addresses problem of classifying rotated, scaled and translated texture
image using two stage log polar quaternion wavelet energy signatures. Sum of
squared distance is employed to classify a set of 38 distinct natural
textures selected from Brodatz album and 48 from Outex texture database.
Based on different testing data sets for images with different orientations
scales and translation, proposed classification scheme using QWT outperforms
other approaches, giving a good classification accuracy and retrieval
efficiency (grey scale, > 85% and color textures, > 83%).

to destination, irrespective of underlying protocol. Also, average node
lifetime increases along with number of data packets successfully delivered

Automatic
isolated digit recognition system: an approach using HMM |
This
study presents design and development of an automatic isolated digit
recognition system (AIDRS) using Hidden Markov Model (HMM). Basic model of
the system is able to recognize spoken digit utterances in English.
Implementation part has been done by using Hidden Markov Toolkit (HTK).
System is found successful and can identify spoken digit at 89.2% recognition
rate, which is well acceptable rate of accuracy for speech recognition.

Deposition of TiAlSiN hard film by cathodic arc plasma evaporation
using a single target combined with a shield filter |
Films of TiAlSiN were deposited on AISI H13 tool
steel substrate by a cathodic arc-plasma deposition system using a single
TiAlSi alloy as target. Presence of TiN crystal phase was found on films, but
no XRD peaks related to Al and Si were found. Hardness, morphology and
adhesion of films changed with different deposition parameters. Maximum
hardness (36.29GPa) of films was found on sample deposited at 300°C with 3x10‑3
Torr and cathode arc current of 45 A.

Determination of optimal
cutting conditions in finish turning of austempered ductile iron using
Taguchi design method |
This study presents optimization of process parameters using Taguchi design method in finish turning of austempered ductile iron. An orthogonal array of L18 was used; ANOVA was performed to identify significant factors affecting surface roughness (Ra) and primary cutting force (Fc). Optimum processes parameter combination was acquired by using analysis of signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. For Ra and Fc values, prediction error was found to be within the confidence limit at 95% confidence level. |

Multi-response optimization
of carbidic austempered ductile iron production parameters using Taguchi
technique |
This study presents optimal production parameters in the manufacture of Carbidic Austempered Ductile Iron [CADI] through melting route using Taguchi technique. To analyze effect of production parameters on mechanical properties, signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio was calculated based on design of experiments and analysis of variance (ANOVA) used to find the amount of contribution of factors on mechanical properties and their significance. Analytical results of Taguchi method were found identical with experimental values. |

Jatropha gossypifolia L. leaves in albino mice and Wistar rat |
Methanolic extract of Jatropha gossypifolia L. leaves showed systemic and significant anti-inflammatory activity in acute carrageenan-induced rat paw edema and chronic cotton pellet induced granuloma formation after oral treatment for 7 days in Wistar rats. Anti-inflammatory activity might be due to effects on several mediators and arachidonic granular tissue formation and leukocyte migration from vessels. |

Effects of various
agro-wastes on xylanase and b-xylosidase production of anaerobic ruminal
fungi |
This
study presents effects of agro-wastes (wheat straw, barley straw, oat straw
and corncobs) on production of extracellular xylanase and b-xylosidase of
anaerobic fungal strains (10), isolated from fecal samples of cattle, goat
and sheep. Orpinomyces sp. P4
exhibited remarkable xylanase activity (3.67 - 5.01 U ml-1) on all
sustrates. Cyllamyces sp. P7 showed
least xylanase activity, however produced more xylanase in corncob containing
medium (3.18 U ml-1) as compared to other substrates. Secretion of
b-xylosidase was
comparatively lower in polycentric isolates as compared to monocentric
isolates. Neocallimastix sp. M2
produced maximum b-xylosidase activity (1.87 U ml-1) in xylan containing
culture. |

Design of solar insolation power logging
system with ADC error testing and correction |
This study presents a low cost solar insolation meter with accurate measurement of inherent non-linear transfer characteristics of ADC. Measured values were found close to accuracy of highly sophisticated instruments (pyranometer and pyrheliometer), which are costlier for large-scale use, low commercial availability and need for a specialized knowledge for handling. Test results over a long duration under varying seasonal conditions were almost identical to those of a calibrated standard pyranometer.

Evaluation
of suitability of oil well drill cuttings for road making |
This
study presents that oil drill cuttings waste can be a very good costruction
material for sub-grade preparation of roads without causing any toxic effects
on natural soil/ ground water etc. Use of drill cuttings for sub-grade
construction will reduce pavement thickness and thus cost of construction
will also be less.
