Science of peace |
Every
person on earth is in search of peace. Absence of peace leads to tensions,
which put stress on human brain. Since stress is directly proportional to
strain; therefore, mental stress puts strain on delicate organs like heart,
kidney etc. and results in the deformity of such organs and/or their
permanent failure, which may even result into death. Therefore, main concern
is how to avoid tensions and develop peace. Following is the equation of
peace: R+ + pct + F K (R+ + pct + F) P ∞ ────────── = ────────── …(1) R─ + A R─ + A where P = Peace, R+
= +ve results, R─ = –ve results, p = patience, c =
contentment, t = tolerance, F = faith in God, A = arrogance (proud) and
K=constant. Here, R+ and R─ are physical
parameters that are governed by human intelligence and hardwork. F, A and pct
are temperamental parameters that are governed by human nature. |

Optimal production planning under resource
constraints |
Production planning is meant to arrive at the framework of manufacturing operations during the period planned. This paper addresses the solution for finding an optimal production planning to minimize the total cost under the resource constraints taking overtime and subcontracting costs. A mathematical model is formulated and Genetic algorithms are implemented in constrained optimization to arrive an optimal solution.

Effects of
quality circle participation on employee perception and attitude in five
Malaysian companies
|
This study investigates changes in employee attitude
brought about through participation in Quality
Circle (QC). Assessment of circle performance was measured by
technical aspects, length of participation, training, member feelings about
QCs, job satisfaction and job commitment. Study illustrates the impacts of
participation on 130 workers from 5 Malaysian companies participated in a
survey. Results show that QCs develop positive attitudes among employees who
derive job satisfaction when they feel that their companies are a good place
to work and consequently, more willing to extend their efforts for their companies.

Taguchi
approach with multiple performance characteristics for burr size minimization
in drilling
|
This paper presents application of Taguchi optimization method for simultaneous minimization of burr height and burr thickness influenced by cutting conditions and drill geometry. The approach of Taguchi design for multi-objective optimization problem is based on the introduction of a new concept of fitness function for each trial of orthogonal array. The fitness function is derived through mapping the objective functions of the drill optimization problem. In present work, optimal values of cutting speed, feed, point angle and lip clearance angle are determined for a selected drill diam to minimize burr height and burr thickness during drilling of AISI 316L stainless steel workpieces. The effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated through simulation results and experimental verifications. IPC Code: B23B |

MSVQ: A data compression technique for multimedia applications
Jyoti Singhai & Rakesh
Singhai |
Data compression is one of
the enabling technologies for the application of communication technology
with ever growing Internet, explosive development of mobile communication and
the ever-increasing impact of video communication to store the data in a
compact way for minimum cost of storage and transmission. There are various
compression techniques available which are capable of application specific
large compression ratios. This paper presents the Multi Stage Vector
Quantization (MSVQ) based on LBG algorithm and Partial Distance Search (PDS)
method, which is most suitable for faster encoding required in multimedia
applications.

Design and development of
microcontroller based human airway pressure measurement system with real time
graphical display for anaesthesia ventilator
Jagdish Kumar |
A microcontroller based hardware design and system software associated with the graphical visualization of the airway pressure data acquisition system has been designed and developed, and successfully incorporated in indigenous prototype of anaesthesia ventilator. An inexpensive airway pressure monitoring system based around 80C31 microcontroller with RAM, EPROM, AD574 ADC, peripheral interface devices and graphical LCD etc., is a module of the indigenously developed instrument. What has been envisaged here is to get a real time pressure waveform on LCD. Air pressure changes over a respiratory cycle. This makes anaesthetist to have a feeling of how air pressure in the tract changes with time. An accurate and sensitive piezoresistive type of air pressure sensor has been used outside the mouth and inside the piping. IPC Code:

Estimation of Rabeprazole
Sodium in tablet dosage form by rapid isocratic reversed phase high
performance liquid chromatography using volatile buffer additives
|
A
simple, rapid and reproducible reverse phase high performance liquid
chromatographic (RP-HPLC) assay method for determination of Rabeprazole
Sodium (RS) in solid dosage form (20 mg) has been developed. Recovery of RS
in tablets was 95.5-96.8%. Chromatographic response of the analyte (100-500 mg/ml) was linear with correlation
coefficient more than 0.99. Runtime of the method is very short and mobile
phase additives used are volatile that are also suitable for mass
spectrometry analysis. Therefore, this method could be used for routine
quality control analysis and in bio-analytical work. IPC Code: B01D17/05

A comparative study of
non-conventional coagulants vis-à-vis traditional coagulant on chhana (an
acid and heat coagulated product from milk) Mahuya Bandyopadhyay, Runu
Chakraborty & Utpal Raychaudhuri |
Three
non-conventional, low cost, food grade organic acids (acetic acid, fumaric
acid, tartaric acid) were effectively used as coagulant at three different
concentrations (0.5, 1 and 2%) in the manufacture of chhana (a heat and acid
coagulated milk protein mass and an Indian equivalent to cottage cheese) as
substitute for sour whey. Chhana prepared by all type of coagulants including
sour whey were found similar in quality. Concentrations (0.5 and 1%) of three
acids produced higher yield than sour whey. Fumaric acid (all conc.),
tartaric acid (1 & 2%) and acetic acid (2%) gave higher total solid
recovery than sour whey. Chhana made by three acids (1 & 2%) contained
higher fat and protein than chhana made by sour whey. The three organic acid
coagulants produced little bit hardy, chewy, gummy, elastic and cohesive
chhana than sour whey but that chhana could be better utilized for making dry
chhana sweets. All three organic acid coagulants (1%) were effectively used
in the manufacture of chhana as substitute for sour whey. IPC Code: G01N1/00 |

CNG exhausts
emission modeling: Neural network approach
|
Traditional statistical regression and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) modeling techniques were applied to assess the emission characteristics of CNG vehicles (cars and three wheelers) to understand the influence of explanatory parameters like vehicle age, vehicle type and air-fuel ratio on emissions of CO, HC, CO2 and O2. For ANN modeling, multilayer feed-forward neural network with single hidden layer was considered and back propagation algorithm was applied for training ANN model. ANN models are shown better predictive models than the traditional statistical modeling techniques for predicting the CNG exhaust emissions (CO, HC, CO2, and O2). |

Cadmium (II) ion and nickel (II) ion biosorption on
yeast: Application of equilibrium model
Padma Vasudevan, V
Padmavathy & |
Experimental data on cadmium (II) and nickel (II) ion sorption on deactivated protonated yeast over a wide range of sorbent and initial metal concentrations, were analyzed by using an equilibrium model based on a thermodynamics approach. Model describes relationships between the equilibrium concentration of metal, metal sorption per unit biomass dosage and concentration of sorbent and initial metal concentrations at constant pH and temperature. Model fits the data well for the sorption of nickel (II) ion onto deactivated protonated yeast at pH 6.75. However, model could be applied only for a given substrate concentration for sorption of cadmium (II) ion onto sodium form of deactivated protonated yeast at pH 6.5. |
