Global scenario of
pharmaceutical industry with special reference to Indian |
Presents an introduction of the structure of
pharma industry, importance of research and patents in this sector worldwide,
difference between basic and process R&D, the anomalies in India and
changes imminent under WTO, the global scenario including industry size,
growth, regional market shares, therapeutic segmentation, major players and
brands. The Indian scenario discusses the historical background, present
status, growth projections, changing strategies in the face of WTO, export opportunities
and future prospects. Detailed coverage of DPCO, its evolution since 1970,
present status, recent drug policy, coverage under DPCO’95, drugs under price
control, their notified prices and major formulations are also discussed. |

Water management and
production of future fuels |
Attempts have been made to manage the waste in an
organized manner, reduce waste generation, conserve energy and look for
alternative sources of energy. |

Removal of phenol
pollutants from aqueous solutions using various adsorbents |
The application of conventional and
non-conventional adsorbents for the removal of phenols is studied. The data
presented are mainly based on laboratory studies and show potential
advantages for treatment of phenol bearing wastewater by adsorption on
non-conventional adsorbents.

An approach towards the
development of environmental quality index for evaluation and categorization
of environmental impacts |
An attempt is made to develop an approach for the
evaluation of environmental data through index analysis. Based on the
sensitivity function evaluation and derivation of Impact Index and Quality
Index related to individual parameters of the various components, Integrated
Quality Index (IQI) is derived. Further, IQI for various environmental
components are carried over to matrix analysis to have overall visualization
in the form of Environmental Quality Matrix (EQM). The results can be easily
evaluated using defined Environmental Quality Index Classification System
(EQICS).

Semiconductor assisted
photodegradation of textile dye |
The degradation of commonly used textile dye
reactive red 2 in an aqueous solution
by means of photocatalysis using ZnO in the form of slurry is studied.
The influence of initial concentration of the dye, pH of the reaction
mixture, catalyst loading, the presence of oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, and
potassium persulphate on the degradation rate is observed. The method
suggests the possible use of ZnO photocatalysed degradation of textile dye
present in wastewater.

Studies on kraft and
kraft-AQ pulping and bleaching of Populus deltoides |
Deals with the kraft and kraft-anthraquinone (AQ) pulping of Populus deltoides at various alkali doses, sulphidity and AQ doses. It has been found that AQ has a beneficial effect on both pulp yield and strength properties. Further, kraft and kraft-AQ pulps are bleached with various conventional and nonconventional bleaching sequences including CEHH, OCEHED, and OCEDED to produce bleached pulp with ultra high brightness levels. |

Prevention of malaria
through homoeopathy |
Homoeopathy provides for proper functioning of the
immune system of a person against diseases through constitutinal or miasmatic
treatment. Of course, hygiene, socio-economic conditions must be congenial to
health. The study was limited to the prevention of malaria and the work is
going on in the clinic and a nearby village. Data, including pathological
evidence has been presented. The work was carried out in three groups of
people, viz. non-suffered, suffered, and those treated under allopathy or
homoeopathy systems. The results show that the prevention of malaria through
homoeopathy is full of possibilities. |
