Apparent molar volumes and adiabatic compressibilities of glycine ( 0.05-0.30 mol kg-1) in aqueous mannose, maltose and raffinose solutions ranging from pure water to 6.0 mass % of saccharides have been determined at 288.15, 298.15 and
308.15 K from density and speed of sound data. Transfer volumes and transfer adiabatic compressibilities at infinite dilution from water to aqueous saccharide solutions have also been calculated. Transfer parameters have been interpreted in terms of solute-cosolute interactions on the basis of cosphere overlap model. Pair and triplet interaction coefficients have been calculated from the transfer parameters.

PVC based Eu(III)-selective electrode. The membrane electrode exhibits a nernstian response with a slope of
19.71.0 mV/decade over a wide concentration range of

Hydrogen bonding in complexes formed between guanine-cytosine and formamide has been investigated by using density functional theory method at 6-311++G(d, p) level. Of the 13 structures, GCF2 is found to be the most stable.

Bimetallic nanocrystals, viz., Cu-Co, Cu-Fe and Cu-Zn, have been prepared by hydrazine reduction in ethylene glycol and characterized. The particle size of the nanocrystals is found to be of the order of 10-38 nm. These nanocrystals have a significant catalytic effect on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate and on the burning rate of composite solid propellants.

A new 2D supramolecular (hydrogen bonded) Cd(II) network, [Cd(2-PTZ)2(H2O)2]n, has been synthesized by hydrothermal reaction. The Cd(II) ion is six-coordinated to two water molecules and two 2-PTZ units which provide two nitrogens from the two tetrazolyl groups and two nitrogen atoms from pyridyl rings. The mononuclear units are assembled by intermolecular hydrogen bonding to generate two-dimensional sheets. Photoluminescence spectrum of the polymer complex exhibits strong blue emission at λmax = 439 nm in the solid state at room temperature.

Phase behaviour and solubilization ability of microemulsion systems comprising the nonionic surfactant
p-octyl polyethylene glycol phenyl ether/oil/1-pentanol/brine have been studied using ε-β fishlike phase diagram. The solubilization ability increases with decrease in the length of the alkanes. With decrease in salinity or temperature, there is increase in solubilization ability and solubility of the alcohol.
