National Science Day

On 28th of February 1928, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman discovered a phenomenon of scattering of photons which came to be known as ‘Raman Effect’. In 1930, he won the Nobel Prize for this remarkable discovery, the first Nobel Prize for India in the field of Science.

To commemorate and honor this achievement, 28th of February has been designated as the National Science Day in India by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) in the year 1986.

CSIR-NISCAIR celebrates the National Science Day every year by way of organizing lectures by eminent scientists, holding scientific events such as panel discussions, etc.
